475 Whitlock Front

Agents are wanting folks to fall in love with homes this weekend, and here’s one of the interesting open houses: The restored McNeel-Henderson House on picturesque Whitlock Avenue in historic Marietta.

The price has just dropped from $995,000 to $650,000 for the Federal-style home at 475 Whitlock Ave., listed by Jim Glover with Harry Norman, Realtors. It’s a five-bedroom, three-bath home on 1.02 acres.

Harry McNeel, owner of McNeel Marble Co., built the home in the early 1920s, and marble from McNeel’s quarries is seen in spots including the front of the home and the fireplace in the entrance hall.Whitlock foyer

Dr. Charles Henderson and his wife, Joyce, bought the house around 1960. They added the stained glass window on the staircase landing, which came from the old Piedmont Hospital.

If you’re fond of older homes, you’ll likely be drawn to features such as a leaded glass door, a cedar shake roof, 11.5-foot ceilings and hardwood floors. It’s open from 2-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and could be a perfect prelude to your Valentine’s Day plans.
