This Just In…

If you are an Atlanta design professional or design enthusiast, I urge you to check out next week’s lecture at SCAD by noted designer Pamola Powell. She’s no stranger to the pages of AH&L. Click here to check out a story on contemporary art that she produced for us in December 2008.

Here are the details from the press release:

Powell’s reputation as an icon in the interior design profession is centered on her track record for bringing the highest level of creativity and innovation to her projects. Noted for transcending beyond a singular style, she designs with an eclectic sensibility and quest to match client philosophy to image. The result is her creation of contemporary, transitional or traditional environments, which ever is appropriate and desirable.

Fashion-minded Bob Brown used an Hermes-orange table in this dining room/library.

In his Alys Beach home, Bill Musso used Bauhaus-style arc lamps in a refreshing lime green.

In the March issue of AH&L, we introduced a new series–Design Dossier. Each installment focuses on a local tastemaker, sort of an everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know kind of piece. Amy Morris was our first subject (I was fascinated, for instance, to learn that she and I share a favorite wine!) and you won’t want to miss the ones coming up. But as I read Amy’s piece–in which she divulges everything from her favorite shopping spots to her must-have home accessories–I found myself answering the same questions we’d put to her.

For instance, Amy told us that “Every home needs…good window treatments.” If that same question were put to me, I’d say “Every home needs…an unexpected splash of color.” Two picture-perfect examples from our archives are the dining room/library in this Bob Brown-designed residence and a guest room in Bill Musso’s Alys Beach home. Both incorporate bold color which, to my way of thinking, ups the design ante several fold.

So, just one question remains: What do you think every home needs?
