Is it just me? Or has anyone else noticed that birds are flocking to home furnishings in record numbers? Not that they haven’t been around for years, but this season the trend really seems to be taking flight. From Jonathan Adler‘s bird bottle stoppers and owl napkin rings to Suzanne Kasler‘s Song Birds collection of wall art for Soicher Marin, fine feathered friends are everywhere. And nowhere more so than in this season’s fabrics. These two examples from Duralee and Clarence House prove the point beautifully: Whether you prefer a traditional tack or want to infuse a touch of whimsey, there’s a bird-bedecked fabric sure to suit your style.

At the Trinity Artists Market last week, it was stunning how many bird paintings were there (as well as natural variations, such as eggs). When I did a profile of Doctor/Artist Gary Bodner last year, he said that Anne Irwin had recommended that he do some bird paintings as their best selling artist, David Arms, painted with a lot of birds and the theme really resonated with their clients.
I am going to check out the SK song bird series!
