Let’s start off the week right with two bits of good news today.

A Craftsman-style home for sale at 1418 North Morningside Drive that we blogged about late last year has received a national award from the AARP and National Association of Home Builders.
The home, still priced at $1.595 million, is one of four winners of their Livable Communities Awards. Other winners were in Washington, California and Illinois.
Here’s what they said about the five-bedroom, five full and three-bath home by Yorkshire Enterprises, owned by Trina Summins:
“The home’s high-end finish and universal design helps it blend in with neighboring 1920s-era homes while functioning as a modern, easily accessible establishment for the aging community. Energy efficiency is integrated into the home with bio-based spray foam insulation, high-efficiency water heaters and easily programmable thermostats. The floor plan, extra wide halls and doors make for easy access moving around the home. Convenient amenities such as light switches, outlets and thermostats are lowered making for a comfortable and livable environment.”

On a local level, Dan O’Dwyer, president of O’Dwyer Homes, has been named the 2010-2012 president of HomeAid Atlanta. It’s the designated charity of the Greater Atlanta Homebuilder’s Association, providing shelters for the temporarily homeless.
