The charming iron gate leading into this Brookwood Hills house is nice to see in a time when that many people are reluctant to flaunt their wealth.
The home at 205 Camden Road is listed for $1.445 million by the Heery Brothers – Neal W. Heery and George T. Heery, Jr. of Atlanta Fine Homes/Sotheby’s International Realty.
You’ll enter through the gate and cross a bridge into the four bedroom, 5 ½-bath home with a focus on the environment, too, with a faux slate roof made from recycled tires.
But why the gate and the bridge?
Neal Heery explains that the property was a teardown in the flood plain, which presented interesting design problems. Heery, his wife Rebecca and his father George T. Heery (architect) created the drawings for this house in one weekend several summers ago. Then they sent the plans to Harrison Design to create a working set.
They wanted to create a home in the vernacular of an old mill house and originally designed a low country-style home. But the city would not permit the drawings because of the adjustments they were seeking to make to the home’s original footprint.
Heery says they had to design a new house and came up with the connecting bridge from the front garage building, which is out of flood plain to the main building.
The bridge was originally a covered porch type of bridge, but the city required that it be enclosed and heated and cooled. This made a wonderful art gallery, Heery says.
