In the latest installment of our new online series that focuses on house styles around Atlanta, Lori Johnston gives us the inside scoop on American colonial architecture. Do you often drive by a house that you love, but aren’t exactly sure of its “style?” Send us a picture and we’ll get to the bottom of it!
We chatted with architect Rick Hatch, a partner with Harrison Design Associates, about the American colonial details of this 3900 Tuxedo Road home listed for $4.95 million by Glennis Beacham with Beacham & Co., Realtors. Here is his take on this classic beauty:

Thank you so much for using our house! I am just wondering, did Rick give a general overview for the style of the house? Did he say “American Colonial with Dutch influences” or anything? I literally have this problem all the time, and I usually need a phrase to wrap everything into a package…

In my interview with Rick, he described the home as American colonial. And when we were talking
about specifics such as the roof, he mentioned that reflects the Dutch influence.
He also talked about how this home demonstrates a style the firm has coined as “generational architecture.” That’s seen in how it looks
like the home has passed from generation to generation and been added on, with the main body of the house, then the garage on the left and
the master bedroom on the right.

Thank you for tracking down the explanation. I was suspecting it would be some sort of Louisiana-inspired design. It’s a beautiful home nonetheless.
I posted about another great house on my blog last night that would be a good subject of investigation for you all.
