Looking for a little design inspiration? You got it! Today for our Friday favorite, we are sharing with you some of our favorite design books at the moment.

1. Clinton Smith – At the moment, three new tomes are wrestling for space on my nightstand, and I can’t get enough of any of them: Rooms to Inspire in the City by Annie Kelly, architect Bobby McAlpine’s The Home Within Us and designer Thomas O’Brien’s American Modern.
2. Kate Abney – I know it’s cliché, but Domino: The Book of Decorating is such a wonderful resource for someone like me who’s just starting out. Celerie Kemble’s To Your Taste is great, too. It really shows how to create transitional interiors that reflect individuality—with a Southern spin. I saw Bazaar Style at an outdoor market once and almost bought it—it’s such a neat collection of eclectic spaces. Oh and Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens People. What a dream.
3. Rachel Cardina Lasserre – Lately, I have been on a French style obsession reading French Home by Josephine Ryan. I also look forward to reading photographer Todd Selby’s new book The Selby is In Your Place as soon as I get my hands on a copy!
4. Heather J. Paper – Admittedly, I’m fickle when it comes to design books; I tend to love the one I’m with. At the moment, it’s Alessandra Branca’s New Classic Interiors. But ask me tomorrow and it may well be another!

Now, it’s your turn! Share with us what’s on your coffee table or nightstand.

This Roman-born, Chicago-based interior designer is known as much for her energetic, whimsical and comfortable interiors—peppered liberally with yellow and red—as a personal style that remains steadfastly rooted in the classics, even during an increasingly chaotic and homogeneous modern time. And when it comes to Branca, who’s been published countless times across the Web and in lauded national design publications, if you don’t know her by name, you are almost certain to know her work. Case in point: Remember this iconic Branca-designed family room featured in Southern Accents in 2008?

The inspiration, warmth and historical influences that characterize her rooms—and her colorful backstory—are captured most beautifully in her recently released monograph, New Classic Interiors (Abrams, $60). Already a bestseller, the book can be equally enjoyed by longtime Branca devotees as much as recent converts to her aesthetic, which makes her upcoming visit to Atlanta and book signing at Buckhead home furnishings boutique, Mrs. Howard, an occasion worth celebrating. This Thursday, renowned decorator Phoebe Howard and her cadre will host the designer and shop owner along with enthusiastic locals who will have a chance to take home her latest tome encased in a special-edition cover. The supply of books is expected to run out fast, though, so make haste in reserving your copy.

Branca, who once famously quoted Stephen Sondheim to say “There are only two worthwhile things to leave behind when you depart this world of ours: children and art,” has inspired a well-chosen beneficiary for the event: the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. Come out to the Galleries of Peachtree Hills on Thursday to support this worthy cause along with a truly worthwhile experience: meeting one of our country’s greatest doyennes of design.

When: Thursday, February 18, 5-7 p.m.

RSVP: While the event is free, all attendees must R.S.V.P. to Leah Kennelly at lkennelly@jmhoward.net.
