Fashion-minded Bob Brown used an Hermes-orange table in this dining room/library.

In his Alys Beach home, Bill Musso used Bauhaus-style arc lamps in a refreshing lime green.
In the March issue of AH&L, we introduced a new series–Design Dossier. Each installment focuses on a local tastemaker, sort of an everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know kind of piece. Amy Morris was our first subject (I was fascinated, for instance, to learn that she and I share a favorite wine!) and you won’t want to miss the ones coming up. But as I read Amy’s piece–in which she divulges everything from her favorite shopping spots to her must-have home accessories–I found myself answering the same questions we’d put to her.
For instance, Amy told us that “Every home needs…good window treatments.” If that same question were put to me, I’d say “Every home needs…an unexpected splash of color.” Two picture-perfect examples from our archives are the dining room/library in this Bob Brown-designed residence and a guest room in Bill Musso’s Alys Beach home. Both incorporate bold color which, to my way of thinking, ups the design ante several fold.
So, just one question remains: What do you think every home needs?

Last month, I become the proud aunt of two handsome nephews and one precious little niece. And in two months my family will be welcoming yet another boy. This recent baby boom in our rather large family has everyone in a nursery-decorating frenzy. Here’s what I pulled from the pages of AH&L as inspiration…

I love the simple, yet playful appeal of these three rooms. And I especially love how the designers elected to not use typical pink and blue hues. Instead, a gender neutral palatte gives the little gems a soothing (and classy) place to play and sleep.

The 2009 Christmas House designers have been announced, and we couldn’t be more excited about the incredible talents who will be designing this year’s Christmas House rooms! The exceptional architecture of the William T. Baker-designed New England shake-and-stone-style home on West Wesley Road is sure to provide ample inspiration, as well. The 35th-annual Christmas House, which benefits the Alliance Children’s Theatre, will be open for tours November 14 through December 6, with Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles‘ official preview party scheduled for November 13. If you’d like to become a Christmas House sponsor, volunteer, or have questions about the show house or ticketing, e-mail AH&L Publisher Gina Christman at gchristman@atlantahomesmag.com.
