Perhaps I’m an exception to the “spring cleaning” norm. Spring gets all the recognition as being the time when people start thinking about “out with the old, in with the new.” But, for me, as the happy-go-lucky mentality of summer dissipates, fall is the season that always sparks the re-thinking bug in me. And luckily, Pottery Barn’s Home Office Event has timed itself perfectly with my productivity calendar!

Wrapping up on September 14, the current limited-time offers have really caught my eye. I’ve always been a huge fan of Pottery Barn’s classic simplicity and ageless designs, but I’m more impressed than ever with the brand’s ability to uphold the same timelessness while adding innovative and eclectic detailing.

My first thought about this project desk set: I need it. Well, maybe I don’t, but it’s still dream-worthy. It’s both functional and stylish, raising the typical desk standard from boring to beautiful. Now only if I could scrounge up $589 from my piggy bank!

Next, Pottery Barn’s selection of floor and desk lighting has me stumped as far as what I would choose to illuminate my (hopefully!) newly purchased work space. There are so many great options to choose from.

But you can’t go wrong with the Cole Task Floor Lamp. It’s sensible, chic and on sale!

I also love the Duncan Task Table Lamp with an exposed (preferably filament) light bulb. Perfectly described by Pottery Barn as reminiscent of a salvaged fixture from a turn-of-the-century pharmacy, this piece is full of charming character.

Whether you’re ready to take on refurnishing your home office or looking to just revamp your current space with new lighting or organizers, Pottery Barn’s limited-time event has all the necessities for creating a exquisite work space.

What’s your favorite place to shop for outfitting your home office?

I am loving these “BonBon” chandeliers by Serbian designer Ana Kraš, fresh off the floors of the recent industry show at Salone Internazionale del Mobile, where many of the most ground-breaking goods in the design world make their debuts every year. A big thank you to the folks at Design*Sponge for their dispatch on these exciting lighting finds on Tuesday (though the photo below is only one snapshot of the countless extraordinay items unveiled at this international design fair in April). These lanterns look a lot like a certain Moroccan-influenced light fixture we chose for a Style story in the June issue of AH&L—the first 10 copies of which just landed on our desks this morning. Keep an eye out for the story—packed with lots of out-of-the-ordinary decorative objects, fabrics, rugs, furnishings, lighting and more—arriving in mailboxes and on newsstands later this month.

While you’re visiting the Salone Internazionale del Mobile posts at Design*Sponge, I urge you to have a glance at the other cool products in the roundup. These are awesome examples of where modern design is headed today, and are endless sources of inspiration for us editors, as well.

Natural Beauties

Lately, I’ve really been getting into rustic metal pendant lights. And there’s just something about the antique sheen and organic shapes of these that feel in such perfect balance, their shining botanical forms giving new meaning to the term “gold leaf.” Here are a few of my favorites I’ve seen hanging around town:

bradley

Bradley-Hughes makes a stellar line of custom lighting that includes a striking hand-forged iron fixture dubbed the “Marley.” Designers can get this French gold-finished beauty at Bradley-Hughes’ new ADAC showroom, and those in the retail market can also pop over to Pieces on Roswell Road and purchase the same fixture for $3995.

Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Stray Dog Designs (available locally through Verde Home) may be best known for its quirky take on the ubiquitous papier-mâché bird figurine, but the company also designs a fabulous line of lighting that includes the artisan-crafted “Clay Crouch Ceiling Fixture,” a regal combo of recycled tin and antiqued mirror that, at just $410, would be perfect for a foyer or small space.

The Delaware River Trading Company, otherwise known as DRTC Studio, is a wonderful place to find that ideal mix of contemporary and transitional—from Blu Dot Real Good Chairs to Bungalow 5 accent furniture. I fell for this chic, yet simple, antique gold leaf “Flowering Lotus Pendant” by designer Jamie Young—a beautiful botanical design at an affordable $225.
