Our February issue, which arrived in mailboxes and on newsstands late last week, is dedicated, in its entirety, to our recent Christmas House at The Mansion on Peachtree. For those who want to get the “showhouse look” in their own homes, select participating designers were kind enough to continue the spirit of the season and treat our readers to special accessories used in their showhouse rooms, or similar items that inspired them in the design of their spaces.

We’ve got 10 days worth of prizes—and, on certain days, two prizes! Entering is simple. The easiest way is to send an email with your name, telephone number, address and email address to showhousecontest@gmail.com. The deadline to enter is January 30, 2011. Beginning daily on January 31, 2011 – February 4, 2011, and again on February 7, 2011 – February 11, 2011, we will draw one name per day (and, in some instances, two). Below is the list of prizes. Good luck! Here’s a link to complete details and contest rules, including other ways to enter.

It’s May, and you know what that means: the annual ADAC sample sale. In its 27th year, this event is sure to live up to its name as the “Rolls Royce of Garage Sales.” Literally held in the ADAC parking garage this weekend, May 15th and 16th, it will offer floor samples and one-of-a-kind items up to 80% off. But here’s the best part–it’s a win-win situation. Not only can shoppers save bundles on their treasures but Camp Twin Lakes will benefit, too. Mark your calendar and set your GPS for 351 Peachtree Hills Avenue. For more information, go to the ADAC website or call (404) 995-9596.

While you’re in the neighborhood, check out the 3rd Annual Spring Tent Sale at The Galleries of Peachtree Hills. Taking place Friday and Saturday, May 14th and 15th, this don’t-miss event will feature furnishings and accessories from the likes of Mrs. Howard and Parc Monceau–again, up to 80% off. For more information, go to the Galleries‘ website.

I’m already in a daze just thinking about the possibilities. See you there!

Whether the weather outside is warm and balmy or frightfully chilly, it’s always nice to curl up indoors with a throw and read a freshly delivered magazine, or just use one to add a dash of color to a favorite chair. Here are a few that I adore no matter the season.

These hand-loomed cotton throws from Dash & Albert are reversible and the perfect weight for summer. I eye them at Star Provisions every time I visit but I haven’t sprung for one just yet. Be sure to also get some tasty goodies to go when you stop in. $117 each at Star Provisions, 1198 Howell Mill Rd., Atlanta 30318. (404) 365-0410; starprovisions.com

B.D. Jeffries always stocks a wonderful range of gifts and housewares, and its throws are no exception. I’m currently smitten with this peacock blue number from DwellStudio, its rich hue recalling the stunning guest house office fashioned by Bungalow Classic for our 2009 Christmas House. This baby alpaca-and-wool blend is called the “Cubist” for its arty appearance. $200 at B.D. Jeffries, 3736 Roswell Rd., Suite B, Atlanta 30342. (404) 231-3004; bdjeffries.com

My early years as an equestrian cause me to love anything remotely equine in nature. This overscaled Polo logo is prominent enough to fuel my fancies and the throw has a heavenly texture thanks to its wool-cashmere blend. Available in black and gray or camel and cream. $795 at OwenLawrence, 1200 Howell Mill Rd., Atlanta 30318. (404) 355-6101; owenlawrence.com

The Sferra event at Mrs. Howard on Tuesday had me pining for my favorite “Celine” herringbone throws again. These brushed cotton beauties are available in nine subtle shades for just $68 each. Available at Mrs. Howard, 425 Peachtree Hills Ave. NE, Suite 23, Atlanta 30305. (404) 816-3830; phoebehoward.net

Gretel, a gorgeous Web site for chic modern wares that our Senior Editor at Large, Heather J. Paper, recently showed me, carries throws from the likes of Donna Wilson and Designers Guild that are a far cry from the ordinary. I’ve fallen for this alpaca-and-lambswool “Levantine Driftwood Throw” for its comfy texture and stunning scheme of soft, muted shades. $198, gretelhome.com

Now the only thing I need is a new picnic blanket so that I can enjoy the warm spring days in Piedmont Park! I’m dying to play croquet one afternoon and pop a bottle of prosecco with the girls. If you have any tips for cute outdoor blankets you’ve spotted around town, send them my way!

Before working at our wonderful magazine, I didn’t really understand my design aesthetic. I had pretty much just graduated from UGA, where futons and Georgia paraphernalia (Go Dawgs!) were the standard design ingredients of college apartments. But after a year-and-a-half here, I’ve finally determined my style is “feminine chic.” I’ve constantly found myself drawn to cozy, romantic rooms that feature restrained color palettes, sumptuous fabrics and soft lighting.

Phoebe Howard’s guest bedroom in the 2008 Christmas House is the epitome of serene femininity.

InStyle Home featured this stunning SoHo loft three years ago. I’ve been hanging on to the magazine in hopes of re-creating this look in my own home someday.

This charming bedroom was featured in Country Living.

What design style best describes you?

This Roman-born, Chicago-based interior designer is known as much for her energetic, whimsical and comfortable interiors—peppered liberally with yellow and red—as a personal style that remains steadfastly rooted in the classics, even during an increasingly chaotic and homogeneous modern time. And when it comes to Branca, who’s been published countless times across the Web and in lauded national design publications, if you don’t know her by name, you are almost certain to know her work. Case in point: Remember this iconic Branca-designed family room featured in Southern Accents in 2008?

Branca

The inspiration, warmth and historical influences that characterize her rooms—and her colorful backstory—are captured most beautifully in her recently released monograph, New Classic Interiors (Abrams, $60). Already a bestseller, the book can be equally enjoyed by longtime Branca devotees as much as recent converts to her aesthetic, which makes her upcoming visit to Atlanta and book signing at Buckhead home furnishings boutique, Mrs. Howard, an occasion worth celebrating. This Thursday, renowned decorator Phoebe Howard and her cadre will host the designer and shop owner along with enthusiastic locals who will have a chance to take home her latest tome encased in a special-edition cover. The supply of books is expected to run out fast, though, so make haste in reserving your copy.

Branca, who once famously quoted Stephen Sondheim to say “There are only two worthwhile things to leave behind when you depart this world of ours: children and art,” has inspired a well-chosen beneficiary for the event: the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. Come out to the Galleries of Peachtree Hills on Thursday to support this worthy cause along with a truly worthwhile experience: meeting one of our country’s greatest doyennes of design.

When: Thursday, February 18, 5-7 p.m.

RSVP: While the event is free, all attendees must R.S.V.P. to Leah Kennelly at lkennelly@jmhoward.net.
